In honor of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution chapters across America are planting Liberty Trees.
The Santa Fe Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will be dedicating a Liberty Tree planted in the autumn of 2025 in the Memorial Garden at the New Mexico Military Museum. The dedication will be held on Arbor Day, April 24, 2026 at 1:00p.m. The public are invited.
The Santa Fe sycamore tree will stand in commemoration of the American and Spanish patriots, whose unwavering service and sacrifice furthered the cause of independence in the American Revolutionary War. Dignitaries will speak prior to the unveiling of the bronze plaque, and a reception will follow the ceremony.
Last summer, the Stephen Watts Kearny Chapter of the DAR also dedicated seven bronze markers which honor those who served at the Santa Fe Royal Presidio during the Revolutionary War.
The Spanish Presidio Soldiers historical marker is surrounded by six patriot markers in the Memorial Garden of the New Mexico Military Museum to honor the Spanish patriots who supported the cause of independence. This Liberty Tree will be a constant, living reminder of the roots of our democracy and the sacrifices made to secure our liberty, especially here in Santa Fe, by the soldiers of the Presidio who made “donativos” toward the cause of liberty.
